Three things I love in this world — Gossip Girl, Chanel, and Karl Lagerfeld.
“Karl Lagerfeld, the eccentric German fashion tsar, has waded into the debate about size-zero models by saying that people want to look at “skinny models” and classing those who complain as “fat mummies”.
Lagerfeld, 71, was reacting to the magazine Brigitte’s announcement last week that it will in future use “ordinary, realistic” women rather than professional models in its photo shoots. He said the decision by Germany’s most popular women’s magazine was “absurd” and driven by overweight women who did not like to be reminded of their weight issues.”
Preach. (read more)
Using fat models is almost as absurd as the French regulating a “warning” label on all photoshopped images. “Failure to include the disclaimer would result in a $50,000-plus fine or up to half the cost of the ad campaign, potentially a huge threat.” My take is: if the person is dumb enough to believe that the photo was NOT photoshopped then they deserve to have low self esteem.

Have you ever walked away from an exhibit completely enthralled and inspired? Go to the Senior Portfolio Showing @ Otis. Now. It’s crazy. It’s almost like … the students are so young. Their ideas are so bizarre at times but they not only thought it but created it. They can really be whatever they want to be. Making it happen for them…in their own vision. Haha. Very afterschool special of me but anyways.
This is purely a general summary about the Otis campus and the exhibit itself. Later on the day/week/month, I will do an artist highlight (there’s product design, furniture, toys, etc). Got to give props to these kids.
This was the most organized showing I’ve been to as of late. We got our badges from the check in booth and proceeded to get drinks and food from the first floor and mingle. They had amazing food. Lol. They had a spread of cheese (!), fruit, eggrolls (!), kobe beef sliders with crumbled cheese and fried onion bits (!), and really good chicken tenders. And wine. And lots of it.
The exhibit was all in one building – each ‘category’ being separated on a different floor – interactive art, visual communications, etc. It was highly comprehensive and ….really. I know I’m going to harp on this again but the TALENT of these kids. Making gowns, desiging shoes, putting together toys ala KAWS. One thing that really stood out was this great little piece off to a corner. It was to create something for a brand that doesn’t currently make whatever you’re making. So this guy made living room set for Yves Saint Laurent and it was the most brilliant set and its something you’d actually buy. And yes. Slap me for not bringing a camera.
If you get a chance, go! Not sure if it’s limited to industry and alumni but you can use my badge :D There’s also a sample sale also on the fashion floor. Pieces are one of a kind!

Target has signed Anna Sui to do a line inspired by Gossip Girl. I mean, what can be more appropriate. I LOVE Anna Sui’s perfume btw.

I love Target.
And most of all… I love the girls from Gossip Girl! Each of them has such a personal style. Did you know that Taylor Momsen/Jenny from GG styles herself?

Serena and Blair would both have FABULOUS lines. Maybe have some stylish bandage dresses, Serena’s messy just got fucked outfits, Blair’s precise detailing. ZOMG. I just came.

Can someone please ID her dress and glasses? and her shortalls in the 2nd pic. thx :)

Thanks Who What Wear Daily. If they didn’t know before, now they know.

“Despite barely scraping together 3 million viewers a week, the show has become the most talked-about, culturally relevant series on television. “It’s not a conventional TV hit in terms of viewership. Its numbers are low and it loses to stuff like The Secret Life of the American Teenager, a far more wholesome show that runs on cable,” Gay says. “But in terms of having a ‘moment,’ however you want to define it, GG definitely is having one. It will be very interesting to see if the show grows, or remains a clubby, small hit. Teen shows seldom have long runs — and I don’t get the feeling this will turn into ER. But it seems to be here to stay as long as the principals involved want to keep doing it.”
Part of the show’s appeal is its authenticity. “The show is sharp and connected to modern life, references, music and so on. Gossip Girl doesn’t feel like something that got drummed up in some network focus group by 55-year-old white dudes,” Gay explains. “No one’s going to accuse Gossip Girl of being The Wire or Mad Men, but if you roll with the fantasy/absurdity, it’s fun to watch, from the infighting to the insane clothes and snappy dialogue.””

I’ve been coveting a denim jacket for a couple weeks now since I first saw it in multiple fashion NY fashion blogs. Then Kim wore one to My House on Reggie’s birthday. [do you love how I act like I’m on first name basis with these people?]
Anyway, how hard can it be to buy a fucking denim jacket? I went to Forever 21 — no jacket. Wet Seal — nope. Guess — nope. Lucky Brand — nope. Abercrombie — yes but in an ugly color and weird fit. Nordstroms — yes, but for 300 bucks. WTF. Apparently, Nordstrom’s had a couple in their junior’s section but JUST sold out.
Please someone send me an ebay link or give me suggestions.
Yes. Denim Jackets are the new Ray Bans. Shoot me.

But I did follow basketball [in like middle school when i thought i had a penis]. Anyway, my boys and a lot of my facebook buddies [hi!] are advocating this so being the good friend and a proud LA’er.. i’m doing my part to spread the word.
“Due to the recent spark in the Lakers/Celtics rivalry, we as Lakers fans and players cannot wear the color green.
With St. Patrick’s day on the horizon, what will Lakers fans do?
Well, what better than to represent our Los Angeles Lakers! On St. Patrick’s day, we urge everyone within the Lakers Nation to wear your PURPLE & GOLD — show your Lakers support, along with your hatred for the Boston Celtics.”
xoxo.
[haha. i had a dilemma on what to tag this. so i put it under fashion.lolz]
I never really liked to wear jewelry or any heavy accesories. No earrings. No rings. Nada. Always felt a bit drag queen-ish to me. I was cleaning my closet the other day and realize my clothes are so streamlined. White Ts, Black Ts, Occasional pop of color Ts - all in the same cut. A-line dresses, swingy skirts, and solid sweaters/cardigans. Ever since 7th grade, I honed my fashion sense and avoid heavy patterns [hell, any patterns in general], pants, the colors red and pink, and turtlenecks.
I’m really fond of this girl’s style. Even when it’s over the top, it’s still clean.
