[albacore tuna roll pic from Yummy T. of Yelp]
It’s A-OK for fairly priced sushi. Personally, I’m not a big fan with mid range sushi. If I wanted rolls or cheap/fair priced sushi, I would go to Midori. It’s low in price and great in quality not to mention its 26 bucks for all you can eat (not laid out on trays. it’s strictly made to order).
So unless you are going for exceptional nigiri and paying for premium fish, I fall back to Midori as my midrange sushi fix.
I just don’t feel that the difference is all that great between rolls. What is the big difference between a 7 dollar roll and a 13 dollar roll? Given that the majority of rolls are fried, incorporated ‘spicy tuna’, drench in ponzu sauce or smothered with mayo and/or teriyaki sauce (i’m not complaining. Mayo IS fucking delicious), the difference is virtually none.
We ordered (yes it seems like a lot of food for 2 people but i eat alot):
* Lava Stone - deep fried rice balls topped with spicy tuna, black caviar and avocado (Their version of spicy tuna on crispy rice which is a crazy popular item among the general public for some weird reason. The rice ball was a bit over fried and therefore hard. Great spicy tuna tho!)
* Yellowtail Carpaccio with Jalapeno - thinly sliced yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno and homemade ponzu sauce mixed with olive oil (Very fresh and good portion)
* San Vicente - crab, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado and smelt egg wrapped in soy paper (My favorite of the night! I love that it was wrapped in soy paper. Very creative. I loved the crunch of the shrimp tempura)
* Albacore Onion - spicy tuna roll covered with albacore, topped with lightly fried onion strips (Onions were more ‘grilled’ than fried but whatever. Good not great)
* Haru - deep fried spicy tuna and avocado roll topped with scallions and smelt egg with creamy mayo sauce (Another winner! Loved that the outside of the roll was a fried. It’s a nice switch up texturally)
I am not bashing this place by any means. Three stars is good. It means its “A-OK” in my book. The service was fast and friendly. The location is ideal and its definitely cheap enough. and its organic for you tree humpers.
