Egg Puffs! Now if only we can find a Macanese restaurant again.

So recently I learned that Johnny Rocket’s is having their very own street truck. ORLY. You know, because I would love to DRIVE to an elusive truck that already has a storefront that I don’t have to chase down.

America is so fucked up and dumb. Seriously. You know, you’re kinda defeating the purpose of street trucks if you have to DRIVE to it and even worse… wait. The purpose of street food in Hong Kong is a quick snack or meal after a long day of shopping or working. You grab a quick bowl of noodles or some stinky tofu and keep it moving. No one fucking makes a trip to get street food. /rant

If you grew up in Hong Kong, you must have a strange love for “egg puffs” or as newbies would call it - a chinese waffle. I remember walking down the street from my grandma’s house every single day to get a batch of these. Comfort snacks at it’s finest.

So imagine my surprise when I found a restaurant in Monterey Park that sold these! Thank you, Tasty Garden. If you must come here, do come during the ‘afternoon tea’ hours (before 5:30), you can get some great food for less than 5 bucks AND it comes with a drink. We got the chicken wings special, egg puffs (!), beef stew with noodles, and a special ‘ho fan’ (curry noodles).

The portions are pretty huge. Plenty food for four people. The ho fan was so tasty. It had wonton, pig skin, fish balls, etc. Mmmm. All the makings of a great noodle. The chicken wings can beat any chicken wings in LA. Fuck Furaibo. Fuck your local hot wings joint. The egg puffs are great especially when it comes out piping hot. The best ‘waffle’ consistency ever. Sometimes I feel sorry for people that didn’t grow up eating good food. They think they know good food but it’s just all pretentious bullshit they learned from their favorite food blog.

The service was amazing. Our drinks got refilled multiple times and they even changed our napkins. What kinda chinese casual establishment does that?!

All this for less than 25 bucks. And you wonder why Chinese people balk at American food prices.

Bonus: AND they use the green chopsticks that are used in the streets in HK.
