    Stalk me

Someone once told me there was cool part of Melrose. I’m still looking.

…. And I thought seeing wannabe Brody Jenner’s and the gay dodgeball crews at Toast was premium people watching.

Oh silly me. Blu Jam Cafe. You take the cake on this one.

There was a homeless man wearing six different types of fatigues holding a baby rabbit. A hipster trio in wanna be Euro attire discussing how funny it would be if a song featured entirely.. get this. cowbells. The irony. I was momentarily blinded by the Ed Hardy display next door — rhinestones, rhinestones, fucking rhinestones.

I wish our 10 minute wait would last forever.

After a quick skim of the menu, I got the blu jam benedict (black forest ham, bacon, poached egg, hollandiase sauce on an english muffin and country potatos) and the mushroom soup. The mushroom soup is meh. The flavor was good. NIce and earthy with bit of chives (they put chives on everything). But the texture was horrible, definitely could have went through a blender a couple times. Way too chunky. Tasted like watered down tapenade spread.

The BJ benedict (lols. BJ) was delicious. The egg was cooked perfectly, the bacon was a nice touch and the english muffin held up well. Their country potatoes are nice and crisp made with red potatos. Had a couple bites of steak and eggs off my friend’s plate and FUCK. Totally regretted my choice! Steak was topped with gorgonzola cheese and eggs rather than the eggs being on the side. Odd but so delicious. I haven’t had a steak cook this well (especially not a brunch place) and I would definitely get it next time.

Which brings me to my 4 star reasoning. There are good things (the steak, the BJ benedict) and bad (the iced tea, mushroom soup, heard the pancake was average also.) It’s one of those places where there’s 100 things on the menu and you just have to know what to order but for what’s its worth. The mains are delicious.

If you can, I’d sit inside.  There’s a lot of crazies on Melrose.
