Blah! After having a really delicious lamb mikahni dish here a couple months ago, I decided to stop in here rather than the usual Thai Boom. I was hungover, feeling nauseous, and hoped that hot curry + stews would soak up the liquor in my tummy.
Tara’s closes at 10. It’s a family own business. Small. Please don’t be dicks and come in at 10:05 and take forever to order like we saw a small group doing.
While I didn’t enjoy my meal this time, I can’t write off Tara’s yet. Just know what to order.
Must haves:
Chicken Pakora - Crispy fried chicken with a spicy chutney. Very dry and well spiced and the chicken is so tender. Like chicken nuggets but way better.
Lamb Mikahni and Lamb Korma - I am pretty sure you can’t go wrong with any nut based sauce. Tara’s does this well and the lamb is always cooked perfectly. Tender and full of flavor.
Naan - To soak up all the delicious sauce!
I’ll pass:
Chicken Chow Chow - Definitely a skip for me. Hell, I still have the leftovers in my fridge. I’m contemplating tossing it out :( It’s like spaghetti chow mein. Sweet tomato sauce tossed with ‘chow mein’ ingredients. Bad combo. All wrong.
Combination Platter (Shrimp, lamb, chicken with Himalayan spices) - In theory, hot plates are cool. They are nice to look at and its keeps the food hot. Which is the biggest problem. The longer the food sits, the more tough it got. All bad.
Chicken Curry - Pretty sure this was chicken curry. I just didn’t enjoy the flavors at all and the medium spicy level was kicking my ass.
And if you really don’t like it, there’s Kabob King down Venice and Thai Boom next door. You just can’t go wrong. or hungry.
