I have been really missing home lately. I mean, how can I not? My city is so gorgeous and Chinese food with a strong Portuguese influence? Made of win. Except then I realize I live in Los Angeles where crappy Chinese food reigns and no one knows what the hell Macanese food is. FML.
Flew up to SF for a day on a whim and had to make a stop at Golden Gate Bakery for their famous egg tarts. While I hardly order egg tarts during dim sum (I don’t like it cold), I thought why not. I’m in the city and they are famous. I can’t wait for the warm flaky egg tarts with sweet custard filling. Mmmm.
The line wasn’t toooo bad when I got there and I think I ate 5 of them in one sitting.
Now I have an itching for Portuguese egg tarts! (Po taat? - my pinyin sucks). What are Portuguese egg tarts you ask? According to wiki, they were “evolved from “pastel de nata”, a traditional Portuguese custard pastry that consists of custard in a crème brûlée-like consistency caramelized fashion in a puff pastry case.”
Come with me to Macau and I’ll show you a good time.
